Paradise Lost
Limited Edition
This concrete waste water facility is located within the wild and natural
lands of O’Neill Regional Park. Orange County government allowed a private
developer to encroach on public land and install this drainage dump to
collect urban runoff from a housing development built next to the park.
This scenic waterway is the first of several to trespass in Orange County
Regional parks. The Irvine Company has been given permission to install a
similar concrete and asphalt basin in Irvine Park. The County claims that
these fenced-off facilities are not a misuse of park land because they do
not impact the public’s use and enjoyment of the area. This photo has been
displayed in public forums and government meetings to illustrate the
county’s care and stewardship of public lands and “wild” places.
